Fire Watch Security in Chilliwack

Dedicated Fire Watch coverage for Chilliwack buildings with impaired fire alarms, sprinklers, emergency power or other fire protection systems, planned around the building Fire Safety Plan, Chilliwack Fire Department guidance and the approved site procedure.

Fire Watch is a temporary life-safety measure. It does not replace prompt assessment, repair, testing or restoration by the appropriately qualified fire-protection professional.

From System Trouble to Documented Fire Watch

  1. Call a qualified fire-protection technician. Have the affected alarm, sprinkler or other system assessed promptly.
  2. Review the building Fire Safety Plan. Use the approved procedure for impaired or out-of-service equipment.
  3. Notify the Chilliwack Fire Department when required. Follow the Fire Safety Plan, technician and Fire Department direction.
  4. Start a dedicated Fire Watch when required. Assign the required route, frequency, communication and escalation process.
  5. Complete rounds and maintain the log. Record patrol times, zones, observations, exceptions and notifications.
  6. End only through the approved restoration process. Fire Watch personnel do not independently decide that an impairment has ended.

Chilliwack Fire Watch Patrol Frequency Depends on Occupancy

The City of Chilliwack states that buildings with sleeping accommodations require patrols at least every 15 minutes during sleeping hours from 9:00 PM to 8:00 AM. The interval may extend to every 30 minutes outside sleeping hours.

For buildings without sleeping accommodations, the City states that patrols are required at least every 30 minutes while occupied. The building Fire Safety Plan and Fire Department direction control when a different or more specific procedure applies.

Fire Watch Personnel Observe, Document and Escalate

Security personnel can follow an approved route, actively observe assigned areas, maintain a chronological Fire Watch log, keep emergency communication available and follow the building escalation procedure.

Security personnel do not repair, program, inspect or certify fire alarms, sprinklers or emergency-power systems. They do not replace a qualified technician, approve a Fire Safety Plan, issue or cancel a Fire Watch requirement, or guarantee code compliance or fire prevention.

Fire Watch Questions for Chilliwack Properties

When is Fire Watch required in Chilliwack?

The City identifies Fire Watch procedures for specified fire alarm, sprinkler and emergency-power impairments. Confirm the applicable requirement through the building Fire Safety Plan, qualified service provider and Chilliwack Fire Department direction.

Can mobile patrol replace Fire Watch?

Not automatically. General mobile patrol is an intermittent security service. Fire Watch is a dedicated temporary life-safety responsibility with an approved route, frequency and continuous log.

What should the Fire Watch log include?

The required format should be followed. A practical record identifies the date, patrol times, assigned zones, objective observations, exceptions, actions, emergency notifications and property-contact handoff.
